RIYL: Wavves, Beach Boys, Nathan Williams

Label: Spirit Club

Despite the slacker vibe that media mags like hovering over Nathan Williams, he’s a pretty damn busy bee.  Last year alone, Wavves released V as well as a split LP with Cloud Nothings, Spirit Club put out their debut, and he introduced a record club through his label Ghost Ramp.  Whatever’s in his bong water, it sure isn’t killing his ambitious brain cells.

Spirit Club, for the uninformed, is Williams’ playpen for psych pop experimentation.  Here, you’ll find Beach Boys harmonies, xylophones and other non-Wavvish instrumentation.  It’s just an all-around mellower high, but you’re still going to hear that inimitable vocal delivery you fell in love with on King of the Beach.

It doesn’t look like you’ll be able to choose your vinyl color, so Ghost Ramp will surprise you with either a red, an orange or a blue slab of wax.  If you’re especially partial to Nathan and company, you can pick up the deluxe package for an additional $9, and that comes with a 2″ patch and an enamel pin.  Ships in October.
