“I don’t wanna have a stroke if I can’t find my medication and I don’t wanna leave you close if you can’t assess the situation” are the lyrics uttered by Saol Álainn on the hook of his debut single “Nostroke” on No Recordings. The LA artist offers a futuristic form of pop music and, as Disco Naïveté puts it “… we’re not talking about 2014 or even 2015 pop, but at the very least 2020 pop standards.” The figure on the cover cover, just like Álainn’s lyrical content on “Nostroke,” leans on the androgynous side and seems to leave all the interpretation within the eyes (or ears) of the beholder. I’d recommend Álainn’s work to anyone who is a fan of Grimes, Purity Ring or any of the neo-R&B acts entering the musical world (inc., How To Dress Well, Beacon, etc.). Check out “Nostroke” via the Soundcloud stream below and see what you think of it. If you like what you hear, after you click the Buy Now link, go to the bar with 005 next to it or the top bar (for the time being). If I remember correctly, prices include shipping so it’s $10 shipped for statesiders and $20 shipped for international residents. Cheers!
