Perhaps you’ve seen Omar Souleyman’s name around a lot and you’re a little taken aback to learn that this actually is his first proper studio album. I can recall reading about him ever since I got really interested in music (~6-7 years ago). Before catching attention in the western world, he would perform at weddings and just give the bride and groom a copy of his performance then he would make more copies to sell at kiosks. He does have multitudes of material released under his name but for the first time he’s been given a record label budget and a proper studio to work with, with none other than Four Tet behind the wheel. Ā “Wenu Wenu,” the first single and and title track, is a seven minute call to the dance floor. I imagine you and much of the reader base can’t understand Arabic, but the mystique of a foreign language (especially Arabic) is a nice change of pace. The LP will come with an English translation of all the lyrics if you’re curious about what he’s saying. Check out “Wenu Wenu” below and see what you think of it. Cheers!

Following a series of three compilations and a live release, Wenu Wenu marks Omar Souleyman's first studio album. Produced by Kieran Hebden (Four Tet) and recorded primarily live in the studio,Wenu Wenu distils Omar's enthralling live performances into a fury of ascending and descending techno scales.
The album features artwork by multidisciplinary artist Spencer Sweeney and layout by Rob Carmichael, SEEN.
The LP comes on heavyweight vinyl housed in a hand-numbered classic tip-on jacket with printed inner sleeve featuring English translations. Limited to 3000 copies.
