When I looked up Night Manager on Last.fm to try and find more information about them, I recognized one of the members from a piece Stereogum did yesterday about another band called Total Slacker. Albeit, Total Slacker’s a bit intense in comparison to Night Manager’s Pizza Pasta. The title and opening track “Pizza Pasta” opens with bold fuzzy riffs that remind me of Lush in their shoegaze era. With two female lead vocalists, along with the other male members contributing to vocal duties it offers up an interesting dynamic that’s not seen too much in the music world. After the riffs it goes in to surfy noise pop anthem. At the end, it harkens back to the nostalgic riffs. “Cosmonaut” has all the men kind of crooning (barbershop quartet style) in support of Caitlin and Jordyn’s woolly harmonizing. “Air Jordan” ends the short EP with slightly less effects applied, while still achieving the warm fuzz wrapped around the end product. Check out Pizza Pasta below via the Bandcamp player and see what you think of it. This is a Fire Talk release, by the way. I know some of you have commented about having trouble with them but perhaps this time around they can make it up to you. Cheers!
