It’s been too long since I’ve written about something from Joel Ford and Patrick McDermott’s Driftless Recordings. Bill Gillim’s Megafortress is minimalist pop that is sure to remind you of Dntel. Megafortress’ Believer makes for the second vinyl release on Driftless, as far as I know. For some reason I thought McDermott’s North Americans project put out a vinyl release on the label but it’s not showing on the website…  Maybe Mr. McDermott or Mr. Ford will see this and enlighten me. Anyway, Gillim wants you to focus on his voice. On “Live in Grace,” the weighty synthesizer and bell chimes within the background sound like they’re almost an afterthought and I don’t mean that in a bad way; I mean that as in it seems like only put them there as a formality. Gillim wants you to meditate on whatever it is that lies at the end of the tunnel. Check out “Live in Grace” below via the SoundCloud player and see what you think of it. Cheers!
