RIYL: ’80s Madonna, Solange, Blood Orange

Label: Plastic World

Keep an eye on this Australian duo who have a serious knack for ’80s-inspired synthpop. If you need proof, listen no further than their first new release of the year, “Grip,” paired with equally infectious b-side, “Number One”—a tune from last year hitting wax for the first time. While singer Ella Thompson released two debuts last year—one solo and one as part of the Dorsal Fins—her collaborative outfit with producer Graeme Pogson has still yet to release a proper full-length. Regardless, GL’s few EPs and stray singles show they’ve fully refined their gripping sonic palette with pulsating rhythms & powerful atmospheric vocals and are more than ready for a proper debut…and so am I, so here’s hoping it comes sooner rather than later!

This pressing of 100 7”s was released exclusively for a Record Store Day 2016 gig at Northside Records in Melbourne, announced through the band, shop, and label social media. Plastic World, has since posted the remainder on their website, so if you can stomach overseas shipping, act quickly, non-Aussie fans!
