RIYL: Yumi Zouma / Tame Impala / Beach House / Alvvays / Maggie Rogers

Label: Winspear Records

Breezy, chill vibes from Brooklyn.

Barrie dropped their “Singles” EP last year, showcasing their charming, laidback indie-pop/rock with a drop of dreampop on top. Their first full-length “Happy To Be Here” dropped this Friday via Winspear Records, and it brings more of their utterly charming, catchy sounds. If you’re into Yumi Zouma, current Tame Impala or 80’s Fleetwood Mac, you’ll find a lot of sweets to digest on this one.

Rough Trade has pressed up an Exclusive Bubblegum Pink slab of only 200 copies, which you can grab via the BUY NOW BUTTON UNDERNEATH (I suggest you move quickly though, alreday sold out on the US site..) Both regional stores also offers the limited Indie-store Exclusive Cherry Red Vinyl.

If you’d want a Cherry Red you can also grab it via BANDCAMP HERE or directly from WINSPEAR RECORDS HERE, or even bundled with the Limited Blue variant of “Singles” if you scroll down on the latter!

The Details

Inclusivity is at the heart of Barrie, the Brooklyn five-piece made of Barrie Lindsay, Dominic Apa, Spurge Carter, Sabine Holler and Noah Prebish. And on their debut LP Happy To Be Here, their multidimensional take on classic pop sounds awake and present, like a group that’s daydreaming but firmly there with one another. Barrie, the band, is primarily her project; on the record, which she co-produced with Jake Aron (Snail Mail, Solange, Grizzly Bear), Lindsay plays guitar, piano, synth and bass. But still, Barrie is distinctly not a solo project, and Happy To Be Here via Winspear - is very much a full band record.

Happy To Be Here offers snapshots of the band coming together in the city, after having lived all over: Boston, Baltimore, upstate New York, London, São Paulo via Berlin. “The scaffolding of this album is moving to New York and finding these people that make up the band,” Barrie says. “We’re very different, but we cover each other’s gaps personally and creatively, and are eager to learn from each other.” For fans of Alvvays, Beach House, Maggie Rogers, and Tame Impala.
