If you aren’t familiar with Elvis Depressedly’s music, please do yourself a huge favor, and listen right now (yes, right now) to his 2013 release, Holo Pleasures. Those six tracks are all lo-fi treasures comprised of golden melody. I really hope that Run For Cover (or any label for that matter) represses that incredible 7″ that Ryan Ribitsch happened to post about back in ’13 #RIPBirdtapes.

Fast-forward to 2015, Mat Cothran and crew have delivered onto us New Alhambra. Sonically, N.A. is anything but lo-fi, and I’m more than ok with that. Mat’s vocals flutter and swirl in and around your ears. Dr. Vink’s bass and cello parts cut through with absolute precision. And everything in between is pure magic. This album is beautiful, ephemeral and even groovy. Themes of God, heresy and pro wrestling flow throughout New Alhambra, evoking images of imperfect heavens and embodiments of personal hells. Mat only needs 20 minutes of your time to enlighten you. I say go for it. What do you have to lose?

Pick up a copy of the LP from Run For Cover by clicking the ‘Buy Now’ button below. Shouts out to Orchid Tapes for selling out of their copies of this record weeks ago.

I hope that you enjoy this album as much as I have.
