Label: Naim Records
Bahraini-British artist Yazz Ahmed has contributed to albums from Radiohead and These New Puritans, adding her unique trumpet and flugelhorn style and giving them cosmic makeovers.  Now, she’s setting out on her own.  Joining Ahmed on the album is ‘new jazz kingpin’ Shabaka Hutchings on bass clarinet and the incredibly talented Naadia Sheriff on the Fender Rhodes.  There’s something indescribable about marrying a muted trumpet with warm, vintage Rhodes tones.  I love this stuff and I’m excited that Yazz is starting to gain some traction with the press.  It’s about time!
Fans of Kamasi Washington, Yusseff Kamaal and Songs of Kemet will dig every inch of La Saboteuse.  Grab one of the 500 deluxe copies after the ‘buy’ link.  It’s on the pricey side, but it’s got all the perks.  Heavy jackets, heavy wax, big booklet, the works.  If you’re in the UK, you can grab a copy from Yazz’s Bandcamp page HERE.
