RIYL: Flying Lotus, Toro y Moi, Knxwledge

Label: Brainfeeder

Stephen Bruner, known to the world as Thundercat, has decided to drop an instabuy bomb on us today. Give your wallet my condolences.  A multi-genre bass player of the highest caliber, Thundercat has been slangin grooves your way for almost a decade, but broke out into much wider acclaim with his sensational 2017 LP Drunk and the immediate classic single Them Changes. The new record is titled It Is What It Is and marks his fifth studio album with Flying Lotus’ label Brainfeeder. Newest single Black Qualls features The Internet’s Steve Lacy and the legendary Steve Arrington of Slave fame, so you know it’s gonna pop off before you even press play. G’head, I’ll wait. If your pits aren’t damp and your hype levels aren’t in the red at this point, check your pulse, bruh.

So far, the album is available in two regular color editions, one on cream and one on red vinyl, as well as two deluxe variants, a pic disc and one on clear vinyl.  Despite it being more than $10 more expensive, those pic discs will be the first to sell out, make no mistake. Stateside readers can grab a copy of all 4 variants from Bleep after the ‘buy’ link, and UK shoppers can grab them from Ninja Tune HERE.
