RIYL: Nosaj Thing, Mono/Poly, Kona Triangle
Label: Ghostly International
Since Shigeto’s last album No Better Time Than Now in 2013, both him and his label, Ghostly International, have gained an audience of significant numbers.  With a roster of pioneering electronic artists from Tobacco to Com Truise to Tycho, Ghostly has remained one of the go-to labels for top tier EDM.  Shigeto’s jazz-influenced glitch hop style fits perfectly into Ghostly’s design aesthetic and demand for high quality, and after the successful Intermission EP in 2015, we finally have his fourth full-length The New Monday on preorder.
Detroit Part II is the first taste of what’s to come, and you’d think it was a follow-up to Detroit Part I, but the styles of the two tracks are significantly different.  Part 1 was a much more trip hop-inspired cut with fractured Pac Man blips while Part 2 uses a tribal house beat under a smooth saxophone and Rhodes combo.  Even a modest fan of electronic music will find something to love in Shigeto’s collection.  Grab a copy of the limited splatter vinyl after the ‘buy’ link.  Even at 1500 copies, I guarantee these will sell out within a week.
