Although Viet Cong are a new name in the music scene, band members Matt Flegel and Mike Wallace are seasoned veterans.  As members of Women, our favorite jangly Calgary-based post punk act, they were met with welcome arms and rave reviews.  With that initial success, however, they ran through the gauntlet of the rock and roll shithouse.  Inner turmoil and exhaustion forced the band to cancel shows, and in 2012, guitarist Christopher Reimer tragically died at 26.

Now a duo, Viet Cong has emerged with new life and new direction.  Continental Shelf is proof that this is not the same band you used to know.  Immersed in a cold, dark wave of noise and drippy reverb, Bauhaus-laden guitars dance with The Ronettes’ classic drum phrase and high soprano harmonies fill in the gaps.  Fans of Phil Spector will dig it as much as fans of Echo and the Bunnymen and The Jesus and Mary Chain.  If you prefer The Cure’s Pornography over Disintegration, you’ve found your next album purchase.

Jagjaguwar knows what you want.  White vinyl can be had for as long as its available.
