RIYL: Karen O, Le Tigre, The Kills

Label: Interscope

2003 was the year The Yeah Yeah Yeahs went platinum.  Their self-titled 2001 EP put them on the radar, but Fever to Tell sent Karen O, Nick Zinner and Brian Chase to the moon.  From the gutter to the MTV Movie Awards, the NYC trio were unlikely pop stars, and Maps was the trojan horse into middle America for an album brimming with experimental art punk dissonance.  An essential piece of the early aughts New York music scene, Fever to Tell still sounds as immediate and dangerous as it did when it was released.

Remarkably, the album only got ONE vinyl pressing in 2003, a picture disc care of Interscope in the states and Polydor in the UK.  That’s all changing now, though.  Feast your eyes on this insane box set full of unreleases tunes, b-sides, a hardbound book, 90+ minutes of video from the era and much much more.  The first 500 buyers will also receive a cassette with 4 demos, hand-labeled by the band.  It’s pricey, but you’re getting a hell of a lot for your money.  Listen to the album below and check out all that the box set has to offer after the ‘buy’ link.
