RIYL: The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Best Coast
Label: Run For Cover Records
The final winter winds have dissipated into endless blue skies, and what a better band to greet the sunshine than Swedish 5-piece The Sun Days. As is the case with any debut album, there’s an immediate need to show how you’re unique from the rest. Don’t Need to Be Them does just that, a perfect pop single as breezy as Skeeter Davis’ version of A Summer Song and as earnest as The Pains of Being Pure at Heart’s Young Adult Friction.
Similar to The Pains’ debut album, there’s a generous helping of twee influence embedded in The Sun Days’ jangly guitars and bleeding heart melodies. And if you’re a fan of Bethany Cosentino’s vocal arrangements in Best Coast, you’ll find an immediate rush of serotonin with Elsa Holmgren’s warm harmonies. Run For Cover Records is on a roll with their band roster, and The Sun Days is yet another reminder that they plan on making a dent in the music scene for a long time.
