RIYL: Interpol, White Lies, Cold Cave, Klaxons
Label: Felte
When the weather gets colder, I always go running to that shimmering darkwave stuff. I’m talking about the Interpols, Cold Caves and Black Marbles of our galaxy and all of their moody post-punk pop soaked in reverb. That stuff hits my ears like a spoonful of hot Campbell’s soup after a frosty February morning of shoveling the snow off the driveway. And you’re like “Dave, you live in Austin, what the hell are you talking about?” Okay, valid point, you vicious bastards.
Soviet Soviet are one of those go-to groups for those dismal overcast days, though. They’ve got the fuzzy bass tones to clear your ear canals, the Stephen Morris drum cadences, the icy, cavernous vocal treatments and all the delicious pop hooks to fill your addictions. Endless is the group’s third album, their second on the post punk auteur label Felte Sounds.
As of this write-up, there are 61 copies remaining on their Bandcamp page. Check out their first two singles from Endless below.
