Since 2009, a group of San Franciscans known as Sonny Smith and his merry band of Sunsets have been fashioning breezy beach pop with doses of psychedelic country.  Similar to fellow Cali bumpkins Beachwood Sparks, the Sunsets’ ramshackle deliveries and half-baked harmonies invoke the free-spirited 60s ethos.  With every soaring note of a pedal steel or a washed out guitar strum, you can practically feel the sand beneath your toes.
First single Cheap Extensions exists somewhere between Strawberry Fields and Telstar, as acid-soaked flutes glint over a steadily pulsing rhythm section.  Whether you’re after desert-scorching peyote trips, late night surfing by Crissy Field or snow cones and fish tacos at the pier, there’s a little something for every Californiaphile here.
You can also bundle up your light blue wax with some t-shirts and records from the Sunsets’ earlier discography HERE.
