Some tunes from Sophie Allison’s “chill but kinda sad” catalog are getting a second life (not that they’ve really exhausted their first) as a Collection of re-polished recordings alongside a few new tracks on her Fat Possum debut. One of the new ones, “Out Worn,” sums up the band’s vibe perfectly. From the start, the instrumentation and a vocals are sweet and poppy on the ears, but the lyrics pull you into a familiar place of reflection on the difficulties that come with human relationships. By the track’s closing—and overall in her songs—Allison doesn’t cave under the emotional hardships; she learns and grows through them. Can’t wait to see how the growth is reflected musically in some of her re-workings!
