RIYL: Prince and Bowie
Label: Soul Step Records
We don’t need to be reminded how grim 2016 was in music. ¬†The losses were vast and the holes they left were massive. ¬†News of David Bowie and Prince’s passing were among the hardest to swallow, both unexpected and seismic for our entire planet.
Bands like Nashville’s Republican Hair, however, represent the silver lining in tragedies and losses like these, celebrating these two inimitable icons with quality art of their own. ¬†Miss Prince, their ode to The Purple One, would fit into Prince’s¬†Parade-era work nicely, bursting with a funkified horn section, a staccato rhythm section and plenty of falsetto. ¬†Constellation, their ode to The Thin White Duke, feels like Bowie in his later¬†years, floating over a minimal bass line and sweeping synth layers.
Check out both tracks after the ‘buy’ link and grab a copy of the 7″ on ‘purple reign’ colored wax. ¬†Soul Step Records always sells out their limited product quick.
