I was introduced to Plastic Mermaids by our very own sly fox Ryan Ribitsch last year when they released Drømtorp, and was immediately taken by Douglas Richards’ vulnerable vocal delivery.   Polaroids, my favorite track from that release, sounded like a young Sigur Ros fronted by Blur’s Damon Albarn.  There’s a combination our eardrums can agree with, n’est-ce pas?

Already back with a new E.P., newest single Playing In Your Mind shows us they’ve been hard at work crafting lush orchestral suites reminiscent of our favorite brit pop groups from decades back.  I hear the high-reaching melody of The Verve, Blur, Travis, and even some of Oasis’ slow dance numbers off Be Here Now (which I still think is a fantastic record..so sue me).

This is music that will be hard to contain in small venues, so try and catch the UK 5-piece in a club near you while you can…’cause the arenas are starting to catch their scent.
