RIYL: Julia Jacklin, Courtney Barnett, Big Thief

Label: Polyvinyl

Polyvinyl has signed a new band Phantasic Ferniture hailing from Sydney, which is fronted by Julia Jacklin who had a tremendous release a year ago with Don’t Let The Kids Win, charting over in Australia and getting some serious praise. This new band consists of old friends Julia Jacklin, Elizabeth Hughes, Ryan K Brennan (recorded a few tracks for King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard on Polygondwanaland) and Tom Stephens. I’ll be the first to say that I was smitten with “Fuckin’ and Rollin'” and purchased this record on green vinyl. If you are looking for more of a review/background on the record and the bands forming, there is a phantasmic (yes I did you that) writeup over at polyvinyl. The quote I part with is from that blurb, “This band is unlike anything else we’ve ever done so there’s no rules. It feels like we just have to let go and let it take us where it wants to go” says Hughes.“It feels really good,” Jacklin says with satisfaction. “It’s like having an alter ego.”
