It was bound to happen sooner or later. ¬†I’m buying albums from bands whose members were born the same year Pinkerton came out. ¬†Spanish-born 4-piece, Mourn,¬†have summoned a sound well beyond their years, conjuring up Patti, PJ, Pixies and the dissonant 90s (of which they spent about 4 years in total, mind you).
You think the concept behind Lord of the Flies was scary? ¬†Try filling an island full of hungry, ferocious teenage girls. ¬†Conch shell be damned. ¬†It’d be a f-ing bloodbath. ¬†Mourn,¬†3/4 young women,¬†armed with guitars and pig-maming spears for lyrics, are coming straight for your heart. ¬†Captured Tracks is dishing out their limited product, a clear vinyl pressing with a 7” and, if you’re lucky, a severed head from one of their enemies.
This is the Special Edition version of the Mourn album. The LP is pressed on clear vinyl and includes a bonus 7″!
MOURN is a very young quartet formed from the friendship of Jazz Rodr√≠guez Bueno and Carla P√©rez Vas ‚ÄĒ both born in 1996 in El Maresme, Catalonia, Spain. The duo armed themselves with inspiration from PJ Harvey, Patti Smith, Sebadoh and Sleater Kinney and began writing material, which they quickly released, raw and acoustic, on their YouTube channel. These recordings caught the attention of their homeland‚Äôs Sones Records. Despite being teenagers, earlier this year they came out of the studio (along with even younger recruits ‚Äď drummer Antonio Postius and bassist Leia Rodr√≠guez) with a brilliant treatise of indie rock that has stunned those who have had the opportunity to listen to it.
