Blending elements of blues and post-punk with a great dose of experimentalism, San Francisco based Michael Beach churns out a highly listenable third full-length. Beach’s voice and vocal stylings remind me of David Grubbs’ surrealist work in Gastr Del Sol, even on songs such as “Dirt” and “Eve” the instrumentation reminds me of Gastr Del Sol with bass lines and guitar work that can wring out gloom or raucous intensity. “Straight Spines,” the album’s second track, is as post-punk as it can get with its tempo weaving between vivace and moderato and Beach almost just speaking over the instrumentation. “Static” is a healthy blend between woefulness and resolve. On “Eve,” an argument between Henry, the protagonist, and Jesus Christ occurs. Henry sounds like he’s trapped in a car, angrily yelling to Jesus that he ruined these people he’s with and… I’ll leave you to listen to the rest of the story.  Preview the four tracks available from Golden Theft below via the Bandcamp player and see what you think of it. It looks like these LPs are hand-numbered in silver Sharpie as well, if that’s a selling point for you. Cheers!
