The King of Jizz Jazz is at it again. It’s been a little over a year since the release of Mac DeMarco‘s critically acclaimed “Salad Days,” but he’s already coming at us with eight fresh new tracks. Released via Captured Tracks, this mini-LP, entitled “Another One,” is the result of Mac recording  by himself while on tour.
Mac’s growth in popularity since releasing his album “2” has been incredible, and as a result, he’s quite the busy dude now. He recently announced another set of tour dates in addition to his already lengthy tour (about 60 in a span of four and half months). It’s honestly amazing that he keeps up with it the way he does, puts out new music as frequently as he does, and maintains his sanity so that he’s still one of the chillest guys out there. He’s probably one of my all time favorite artists, not just because of his musical style, but because of how charismatic he is.
Each bundle includes:
– “Another One” mini-LP on dark green colored vinyl
– A bonus instrumental LPÂ that comes in a special euro sleeve
–Â A slipmat that is a replica of the actual vinyl, designed from a high-res scan of the LP.
We’re told the slipmat was Mac’s idea because he wanted it to look like his album was always on people’s turntable. Very cool!
If you’re a DeManiac like me, or a fan of the label, this is definitely a release you’re going to want to snag. They will go fast! Check out his latest single off the LP, “The Way You’d Love Her,” as well as the “Making Of” video below.
Like the days of Steely Dan, Harry Nilsson or Prince releasing a classic every year (or less) comes Mac DeMarco’s Another One, a mini-LP announced almost one year to the date of the meteorically successful Salad Days. Conceived and recorded entirely by himself in a short period between a relentless tour schedule at his new place in Far Rockaway, Queens, Another One is eight, freshly written songs, expanding the arsenal of Mac’s already impressive catalog. There’s a bittersweet, romantic sensibility present. The overall feeling is lost love, or perhaps love never found, yet Mac embraces this without making it an overly somber experience for the listener. It’s at times haunting and warm, and a bit more refined and sophisticated, but still plenty playful, retaining the guts and soul of classic Mac.
With two full-length albums and two EPs released and hundreds of sold out shows performed in the last several years, a recent late night television debut on Conan following a special guest performance on The Eric Andre Show, it seems as Mac DeMarco nears his 25th birthday, he’s outgrowing any sort of slacker stigma. This summer, Mac will play festivals all over the country, including Shaky Knees, Austin Psych Fest, Pitchfork Music Festival, Outside Lands, Bonnaroo, Solid Sound and more. As expected, he’ll continue to tour extensively in support of Another One, further connecting with his ever-inspired fanbase, whether in New York City, Tel Aviv, Brazil or Australia. Shortly after the album’s release, Mac will do a four night run in New York playing the Bowery Ballroom, Webster Hall, Music Hall of Williamsburg, and Warsaw.
