Julia Brown is a five-piece band hailing from the state of Maryland and shockingly, none of them go by the name of Julia Brown. The band has two vocalists, Sam Ray and Caroline White (who’s also the violinist), and they’ll sing separately or together in the same song. This band has pop-punk sensibilities but I don’t feel like it’d be fair to throw them in that category. Ray’s near-deadpan delivery of his lyrics adds to the melancholic attitude but I wouldn’t, by any means, call this “emo,” either. “I felt something good/it exists inside my head/just like everything/won’t exist outside my dreams” are the last words uttered by Ray and White on this 7″ with the song “The Way You Want” as it trails off. I apologize in advance for missing the boat on the first 100 gold 7″s, but  I pray you had a great Christmas yesterday. Check out this 7″ below via the Soundcloud player and see what you think of it – the songs are pretty short, so it won’t take you too much time to look through them. Cheers!

Julia Brown has since moved on from tape players placed on bedroom floors and rooftops and spent some time in the studio to record these songs. With clearer, comparatively hi-fi production, the delicate songwriting and attention to detail has never been more vivid.
