RIYL: College, Desire, Chromatics, Niki & The Dove

Label: Last Gang Records

Presumably named after a Debbie Gibson single, Canadian duo Electric Youth have effortlessly captured the essence of 80s nostalgia in their soft synth-laden pop music.  From the reverb-saturated drum machines to Bronwyn Griffin’s nebulous vocal delivery, if there was an algorithm to follow for this stuff, Electric Youth is the band.  And perhaps it’s this potential for pigeon holes that the band is attempting a stylistic transformation for album #3.  Titled Memory Emotion, expect the sound you fell in love with, but expanded into a vastly new array of sounds, moods and tempos.  Self-produced but fully-realized, expect this to be a big step for the band.

Grab a copy of the clear wax from Last Gang Records HERE or from the band store page after the ‘buy’ link.  These are shipping from Canada, so those rates will be a bit higher for anyone stateside.  Listen to the entire album below as well as a few of their new music videos.

Electric Youth’s self-produced Memory Emotion is the yang to the ying of their acclaimed debut: whereas Innerworld had an inward focus and the immersive atmospherics of a headphones album, the new LP looks outward, exploring a wider spectrum of sounds, moods and tempos, resulting in their most dynamic body of work yet.
