I’m really loving this new single from David. I mean the man has put so much great music out. To me he seems to be somewhat following a similar path as Paul Westerberg, fierce in his youth, and then more lyrically driven and almost alt country in his older age. Really I love both artists and the way they’ve been able to continue to make great stuff and revise their style. Take a listen to this new single, I believe you’ll like.
David Kilgour & the Heavy Eights return with a brand new song and a cover on this limited 7-inch, out on June 25.
Kilgour states, "I started writing 'Christopher Columbus' in my head after being stuck in Barcelona a couple of years back at the end of a Clean tour of Europe. My flight out was delayed by a day, so I spent most of that time hanging around the Rambla de Santa Monica, where a statue of Columbus stands. It got me thinking about how his discovery of America led the world to where we are now." The b-side, "Shifting Sands", was originally recorded in 1967 by The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band. "You can find the track on their LP Part One. I discovered the band in the mid ÔÇÖ70s and have loved those first three LPs ever since."
Preorders will ship to arrive on or around the release date of June 25.
