RIYL: Rhye, Blood Orange, Mazzy Star

Label: Partisan Records

Of all debut albums from the last few years, Cigarettes After Sex’s 2017 self-titled album was one of the most immediately satisfying for me. Soft, velvety dream pop for lovers and concubines, Greg Gonzalez sings simple vocal harmonies with profound warmth, a similar characteristic in artists like Rhye, Beach House and Mazzy Star. Their new sophomore release, titled Cry, was recorded entirely at night in a mansion on the Spanish island of Mallorca. Holy smokes, that sounds romantic AF.  Get those silk sheets ready.

Rough Trade has an exclusive grey vinyl variant limited to 2000 copies HERE. Partisan Records has a deluxe gatefold with a metallic foil finish, but no quantity has been given.  Grab that one for $35 after the ‘buy’ link and listen to first single Heavenly below.
