By now, you should be familiar with the name Christopher Owens. In the past few years, he has put out a couple solo albums, Lysandre (and also this album’s acoustic counterpart) and A New Testament. But before all of this, Owens was the frontman in the band Girls, one of my favorites of all time.
With Chrissybaby Forever, you can definitely hear a little bit of Girls throughout, but Owens has really grown to find his own voice. He isn’t afraid to do what he loves, even if what he loves isn’t popular. He says his past two albums weren’t as well received as he expected, so he “was prepared for people maybe not to like it.”
However, unpopularity can come at a cost. The past two albums have had some amazing compositions and musicians, many of which worked with Girls on Father, Son, Holy Ghost. And while Owens says these tours were some of best experiences he ever had, touring with such a large group can be costly, so he wanted to take a more stripped down approach on this album.
“My solos aren’t going to be as fancy, but they’re going to sound like me.”
Take a listen and hear for yourself. A fantastic album from one of the most talented and down-to-earth artists out there.
