RIYL: Best Coast
Label: Polyvinyl Records
It may have been 4 years since Toronto 5-piece¬†Alvvays released their debut full-length, but it feels like they never left us. ¬†Fronted by Molly Rankin’s everdreamy falsetto, Alvvays made an immediate impact on the indie rock landscape with their sun-kissed jangly surf pop and lovelorn lyrical treatments.
The band has invested more time for studio sheen on sophomore follow-up Antisocialites, and it feels like the right move. ¬†First single In Undertow will undoubtedly be one of 2017’s finest summer anthems, a blissful 3 minutes of washed-out dream pop bursting with elation and simultaneously aching with melancholia. ¬†It could soundtrack¬†a road¬†trip to the beach with your friends and just as easily be the song to lick your wounds after your summer fling turns sour.
Polyvinyl Records has 1500 ‘early bird’ copies of the record on dark and light blue starburst vinyl. ¬†That number may seem like a lot, but Alvvays has accumulated a lexicon of die-hard followers since they broke. ¬†Don’t expect that variant to last very long.
