RIYL: The Killers, Donny Benét, Arthur Russell

Label: Secretly Canadian

Who is Alex Cameron? 2014’s Jumping the Shark saw the man as an aged, washed-up lounge singer backed by minimal synths and a drum machine. On Forced Witness in 2017, he transformed into the sleazebag you’d find at a rundown casino during the graveyard shift, a quick wit and a slow dancer. Personas aside, there was no denying his prowess as a man who could shit a hit in his sleep. Tracks like Runnin’ Outta Luck and Stranger’s Kiss are straight out of the hall-of-fame songwriter’s playbook.  Grabbing the attention of everyone from Jonathan Rado to Brandon Flowers, the secret is most definitely out.  But…who the hell is Alex Cameron really? I think Miami Memory is going to let us in for a spell, an invitation into his 3-year relationship and inner monologues about love and beyond.  Maybe we’ll learn a thing or two about a thing or two.
