After three long years, the doors to Shabazz Palaces have opened again.  Wordsmith wizard Ishmael Butler has not only stayed relevant for the last 25 years, but helped lead the charge in hip hop’s everchanging art form.  With the help of multi-instrumentalist Tendai Maraire, Shabazz Palaces are armed and ready for album number 3.

2014’s Lese Majesty continued down the experimental path that they began on their debut Black Up, rich with sci-fi synth textures, off-kilter beats and Ishmael’s otherworldly word play.  Newest track Shine A Light hints that the duo is veering into different waters.  The James Bond-esque sample and straightforward rhythm celebrates classic hip hop tradition, but their inimitable delivery is still as progressive as their previous work.  Absolutely killer track.

Sub Pop has an undisclosed amount of ‘Loser Edition’ color variants available after the ‘buy’ link, so grab one at your leisure.  These will definitely sell out, but you should have at least 3-4 weeks to think it over before that happens.
