RIYL: trip hop instrumentals

Label: self-released

hERON describes their unique style as “instrumental trip-hop infused with a gloomy dreamlike melancholy, cinematic sad bangers drawing as much from psych rock, 70’s pop and Twin Peaks as they do from Seattle’s chief exports of hip hop and grunge.”  That’s about as accurate of a description as you need here.  Rob Castro and Progeny combine their vast knowledge within dusty-fingered dollar bins and decades-old obscurities to fashion a style of sampling that you just don’t get the privilege of hearing very often.  Whether you’re into a half-baked opium den aesthetic or you’re in the mood for smoky lounge lizard cocktails, hERON’s self-titled full-length will take you there.
