RIYL: Kelela, The Knife, Arca, Björk

Label: Young Turks

Tahliah Debrett Barnett, famously known as FKA twigs, immediately gripped our unsuspecting ears in 2012 with her glitchy electronic soul on EP1, an experimental project that didn’t feel exclusive to weirdos. This music was daring, but easy to love, a testament to Barnett’s ethereal vocal treatment and studio techniques. She released LP1, her first and only full-length, all the way back in 2014, so the hype for her upcoming sophomore release has built to a roar. Titled Magdalene, the record will explore “…every lover that I’ve ever had, and every lover that I’m going to have.”  Expect some stylistic shifts as is custom for any shapeshifting chameleon like FKA twigs, but don’t expect it to be boring. Fans of The Knife, Arca and Björk should have plenty to love here.

Online distros like Rough Trade have an indie-exclusive variant for the record on red vinyl. Check your favorite stores for preorder links, but check them fast! Vinyl Me, Please has a smokey marbled blue variant that you can check out HERE, but currently you need to be a member to buy it.
