RIYL: Dr. Octagon, Outkast, Gravediggaz, Brotha Lynch Hung

Label: Warp Records

Just after one listen, Atrocity Exhibition has thrust its crusty extremities into my deeply guarded list of all-time favorite hip hop and horrorcore records.  With his inimitable madman flow and crazed haunted house beats, the dance party at your local loony bin is officially underway.  Besides being a forward-thinking artist, Brown is also just an impossibly interesting person.  The dark history with drugs and incarceration has brought an immense amount of material to his lyrical witticisms, and his sense of humor about it all just adds to the ever-growing myth around him.

Warp Records, home to Flying Lotus, Onheotrix Point Never, Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada and many more revolutionary artists in the electronic and hip hop genres, understand Brown’s undeniable talent and impact on culture, and have celebrated this new mind-melting endeavor with some delicious pink wax.  There’s no word on the quantity, but I wouldn’t wait around for long, playa.  This ain’t just a ‘Best of 2016’ album here.  This will rank among the genre’s greatest ever.
