RIYL: ORB, Meatbodies, Mink Mussel Creek

Label: Copper Feast (AUS) / Krautpop! (UK) / Cosmic Peddler (US)

Brighton psych trio School Disco are following up their self-titled 2019 record with Head’s Still Here, 9 stoned-out jams slathered in spacey atmospheres and sludgy riffage. Tracks like Poison and Echoes trek along the blues metal road paved by Tony Iommi and his ilk, but School Disco have a primitive quality that feels perfectly rough around the edges. The caveman stomp in the rhythm section feels like a lost cut from Mink Mussel Creek or ORB’s 2016 record Birth. It’s heavy as hell and has the will to get a little weird, as evidenced by Isolation Never Knows, a fried spoken word piece from the school of Syd Barrett. This one’s for the heads.

Australia’s Copper Feast Records has a beautiful splatter variant limited to 125 copies called ‘poison pill’ on half white/half clear. You can grab that one after the ‘buy’ link. UK’s Krautpop! Records has a colorway called ‘pilgrim green’ also limited to 125 copies with a green and black marble finish. That can be purchased HERE. If you’re in the states, Cosmic Peddler is selling a handful of the ‘poison pill’ HERE, but there aren’t many to go around. Check out three of the album tracks below and grab hustle through those ‘buy’ portals for the slab of your choosing.
