Rocket Recordings gained some steam with a lot of new fans after they started releasing wax slabs from our favorite tribal ritualists GOAT, but the revered label is a household name to psych addicts.  They’ve been releasing solid brain-benders since the late 90s, featuring 7″s from the likes of Thee Hypnotics, The Heads and Johnny Hash as well as some modern favorites like White Hills and Teeth of the Sea.  One of their greatest endeavors has been their Collisions split 12”s, my favorite being the vicious Oneida/Mugstar tag team.  However, that one may be challenged by the newest addition: Mamuthones & Evil Blizzard.
Mamuthones’ Don’t Be Choosy is a punchy krautrocker with a glistening post-punk sneer.  If Neu! slowed down their tempo and let a drunk Mark E. Smith front the group, you’d get something in the same vicinity as Mamuthones.  It’s an elegantly wasted cut, and perfect for any underground disco or cockfighting ring.
Evil Blizzard gets a bit more metal in the rhythm section, but the shrill Ozzy-esque vocal accompaniment in tracks like Sacrifice take the group to haunting cosmic territory.  This ain’t your OzzFest band.  This is a group you want playing your satanic-themed bar mitzvah.  Get spooky.
Rocket Recordings only has 50 for sale on their site. Â The rest of their limited batch gets scattered to the four winds. Â If you don’t wanna play your chances at the local record store, I’d get down on this immediately.
