RIYL: The Raveonettes, The Coathangers, The Kills
Label: Six Tonnes De Chair
North Carolina garage punk duo Wahyas¬†have¬†something fuzzy and swampy for your ears and loins. ¬†With an attitude that’ll scrape the enamel off your molars,¬†prepare your minds for a beastly hip-shaking¬†double-dose of cool.
Third Eye is classic garage snarl. ¬†The riff is perfectly simple and the¬†middle fingers are firmly pointed upward¬†while the drums get a pounding they won’t forget anytime soon. ¬†It also has perhaps the most memorable lyric I’ve heard in some time, “Won’t you take me to the coast, drink tequila and fuck a ghost.”¬† Well now. ¬†Pretty excellent vacation plan, I’d say.
In the brief few years that Six Tonnes de Chair Records has been around, they’ve exhibited a profound knowledge of unique punk-branded rawk and rowl, and Wahyas is further proof that the train ain’t stopping for potty breaks. ¬†Keep your ears tuned to their bandcamp, ’cause some big surprises are on the horizon. ¬†Ya heard it here first.
