Meet Cool Ghouls, makers of crackly, ramshackly garage jangles by way of San Francisco.  Looking back as much as they look forward, these 4 ghouls draw inspiration from the modern wave of California psych acts like Thee Oh Sees and Allah-Las, but also tip their hats to the innovators of the scene…The Byrds, Love, Jefferson Airplane and the lot.
The beginning of The Mile plays like a lost Link Wray number, growling out ‘Rumble’-style guitar swagger, but shifts into stoned beach melody a la Arthur Lee.  It’s the kind of tune that would’ve brought the hippies and the bikers together in perfect harmony.  If Cool Ghouls were on the bill at Altamont, we would’ve seen Hell’s Angels twistin’ with long-hairs, sharin’ each other’s joints and drinking out of the same acid kool-aid bottles without even wiping it off first.
