Well, if memory serves me correctly, I believe this is the first time that I have been able to write about an independent pressing campaign on here. On the whole, Sly doesn’t get to write about pressing campaigns very much so this is kind of special. The Little Books are a duo made up of Rick Colado (RickoLus, Julius Airwave) and Robin Rütenberg (Four Families) – both are longtime fixtures of the Jacksonville, FL music scene. This is going to be their debut, but they need your help to get it done. At the time of this article, the campaign has reached over halfway on its $2000 threshold. The deadline is May 1st, but I think the two can get it done and even exceed their goal before then. For $30, you will get a copy of the record and if you happen to be in the Jacksonville area (or close to it), you can use the ticket to attend their album release as well. They’ve also got a cool option for you if you live in Jacksonville – for $450, they will come to your house and play just for you and your friends. Check out the single below via the Bandcamp player and see what you think of it. Cheers!
Hi there! Meet The Little Books, an energetic indie pop duet made up of Rick Colado (RickoLus, Julius Airwave) and Robin Rütenberg (Four Families).
Rick and Robin have been individual fixtures in Jacksonville's music scene for years and in 2013 the two started meeting to share ideas and inspirations. The result of these creative sessions is a spirited full-length album entitled "Bridges and Empires" and the creation of The Little Books.
Actually, Rick is a wizard… in-between releasing his most recent solo adventure, Troubadour, and touring Europe in support of Radical Face, he and Robin began writing and recording sessions for their new evolving sound. In this time, Robin also released an album with Four Families. After many months, the duo's hard work finally paid off in the form of a moving debut album. For the moment, the songs nap in the belly of a slow, grumbly beast called a hard-drive.
This campaign will assist The Little Books in bringing "Bridges and Empires" to life in new, creative formats. In our immediate, analog age, we sometimes forget the significance of the relics of human touch. Printed materials, vinyl and hand-made journals are meaningful mediums that enhance the experience of music. We wish to explore and share our music this way.
TLB are involved in every inch of production. From writing to recording to mixing to artwork and design to printing. This means all the rewards from the campaign are unique, individual artifacts, made with love and ink by The Little Books (and sometimes the talented J.T. of CrookedPaw). Printed materials are made by hand in Rick's garage.
Funding The Little Books album will allow the group to invest more into future studio recordings and touring. If this campaign reaches beyond its goal, the remainder will go toward their follow-up EP recording session in Atlanta, GA at the end of April 2014.
