I love the polarity of Sub Pop.  On one side, you have the Mudhoneys and the Pissed Jeans and the Metz boys chewing on coca cola cans, and on the other side, there’s a bevy of beards, paisley shirts, Beach Houses and Fleet Foxes.

Luluc is in the latter camp, lofting fluttery piano and campfire guitar work towards your eardrums in the vein of Nick Drake and Belle and Sebastian’s softer balladry.  Zoë Randel sings with such a simple pleasantness, she sends me to an early ’60s Newport Folk Festival, captivating the masses with a unique humility and yet an unwavering optimism for culture and progress.

This is the kind of record that feels wrong on the shelf.  It’s a record to be played, shared and pondered.  You’ll also receive an autographed art print from the band, and may even get some fancy stickers from the Sub Pop warehouse too, so quit thinkin about it.  It’s $14, idiot.
