RIYL: Tallest Man on Earth, Horse Feathers, Calexico

Label: Sub Pop

The last we heard of Sam Beam of Iron & Wine was a duet album with Jesca Hoop which was received well, so the hope of this new album is sitting high on. Before that it was a collaboration with Ben Bidwell, which also provided a different sound then we would expect from Mr. Beam. However, we actually haven’t heard a solo full length album from Iron & Wine for about 4 years, with Ghost on Ghost. This all leads to the exciting release of Epic Beast, said to “hark[s] back to previous work…” I can’t complain. The single reminds me of the early days of Iron and Wine; soft vocals, catchy melody and a warm and comforting sound. Currently, the Red & Blue Deluxe vinyl over on the Iron & Wine website is sold out, but they have copies over at Sub Pop, so get it before its gone. And it will be gone, fast!
