RIYL: The Avett Brothers, Ryan Adams, Langhorne Slim, Delta Spirit

Label: HUB Records

Many bands have attempted to mainline that free-spirited American wind into their music and message, but few can channel it with such ease as Dawes.  Taylor Goldsmith’s vocal delivery is so simple, but so hard to pull off without sounding forced, and Griffin Goldsmith, Lee Pardini and Wylie Gelber transmit that breezy, timeless Los Angeles dose of Americana into Dawes’ rhythm section.  Not even two years after their stylistic switcharoo album We’re All Gonna Die, Dawes are back with their sixth full-length.  Titled Passwords, expect the ever-maturing sound you come to expect from Dawes.

My favorite of the available tracks is Crack the Code, an exploration into their softer rock side.  Vintage synths, pedal steels, pianos and acoustic guitars meld together in a similar vein to The War on Drugs, Ryan Adams or your favorite Bruce Hornsby tracks.  I think this album is going to be one of their best.  Check out two of the tracks below and grab the clear vinyl variant after the ‘buy’ link.
