RIYL: Traditional folk with a modern twist.

Label: Self Released

Cathy Burke released her debut record last October, but i stumbled about it only some days ago. It’s very minimal traditional folk with mostly just banjo and female harmony vocals from Kate Burke, who also plays the fiddle on some songs. It’s one of the most beautiful records i heard lately and it stands out of all the thousands of folk records released every month. Her beautiful vocals and the minimal banjo supports the sad and lonely feeling. Cathy Burke stands in the long traditions of folk music not to reproduce it, but to add a new and personal view to it.
