XVI is a relatively new label (it’s less than two years old) and it’s already got quite the impressionable roster. They brought you that Yumi And The Weather EP, All We Can, I wrote about yesterday and they bring this tightly knit sampler from some of the best their label has to offer. With only four songs, it packs a punch with its colorful array of 2-step and garage courtesy of Real, My Panda Shall Fly & Will Ward, Liston and Decyfer. “Don’t Need Ya Love” is sugary in all the right places and can’t help but put a smile on your face when you listen to this thing. “British Princess” brings the feeling of ecstasy exuded from “Don’t Need Ya Love” back down to earth with its almost ritualistic/tribal take on 2-step. “Hoarder” comes in to swoop the feeling back in to an atmosphere of bliss, yet it maintains a seedy approach – this is meant for a nightclub. “Mindset” comes in last to mellow everything out, with its hesitant yet aggressive melody lying in its minimal synthesizers. By the way, this is XVI‘s first physical release. Check out Imitating Life below via the Bandcamp player and see what you think of it. Cheers!
