Merry day after Chrimus and a happy holidays to you all. We’ve come to, arguably, the strangest part of the year. This is a small lull between two major holidays, and you don’t quite know what to do with yourself. 2016’s been a perilous year, and we can only hope that there will be no more blindsiding twists and turns that will unfold. Nested Structure doesn’t sound content to be in a nest or in need of a structure – kind of like this year. The abstract darkwave on Nested Structure gets the gears going in the filthiest industrial center you can think of – your mind. While only being four songs, it still packs quite the wallop and it just makes you long for more. With EPs, there comes an album so hopefully we see an album from the pair soon. Nested Structure was going to be tossed in the trash after some cleaning, but alas it was saved. Listen to Nested Structure below via the Bandcamp player and see what you think of it. Cheers!
Nested Structure is the first Great Circles release from artists outside of Philadelphia. THRIVE are Tetsuya Yoshida and Hitoshi Kojima. They both grew up in the North Kanto area of Japan. They first met at the club run by Tetsuya Yoshida called SOUND A BASE NEST, which is known as having the best sound system in the North Kanto area. In 2007, the duo started their DJ / Producing unit THRIVE. Previous releases have included a split 12â with Keia Yano for Japanese label Struct, and recent solo releases by Hitoshi for Always Human Tapes and Ambivalent Deviation.
This record almost didnât happen! --- Tetsuya and Hitoshi were picking up Great Circles records in Japan and, having periodically communicated with each other about music, they sent us the Struct 12â to check out. While cleaning out the back of the car a few months later, the presumably empty record mailer was about to land in the recycle bin when we fortunately discovered a demo CD of unreleased THRIVE material inside. We drove around listening to it and a week later we agreed to release a 12â.
The music on the Nested Structure 12â is dark, foreboding, even outwardly threatening. Itâs hypnotic, textural and rhythmically complex.
