L.A.’s finest DJ/Remixer/Producer was born Henry Laufer, but has creeped his way into our headphones by the name of Shlohmo.  He’s remixed a lexicon of tracks ranging from Burial to Gonjasufi to Jeremih and arguably made those tracks better than the originals, putting his spin of sludgy downtempo into their foundation to make it all his own.
Every once in a while, he creates something from a completely blank canvas.  We call those kinds of tracks “originals”.  2015 will see a full tour and most likely an entire LP of Shlohmo gold, but in the meantime, tide yourself over with Emerge from Smoke, a cavernous downtempo cut that sounds both sinister and soothing.  It’s like a modern take on a John Carpenter horror soundtrack.  Think Jason on a killing spree at a Nine Inch Nails concert.  Yes please.
For a measly $6, you can grip the 7” on an aptly-made smoky colorway.
