Nils Frahm is one of those names you should probably know by now. He’s worked with many, many people such as Peter Broderick, F.S. Blumm, Dustin O’Halloran, Anne Müller and Olafúr Arnalds among others. Frahm gets around, as he should. Frahm was taught to play piano by Nahum Brodski, who was the last student of the last protégé of Tchaikovsky – I would hope you know who that is. Through some degrees of separation, Frahm had a bit of esteemed regality poured in to his training. Frahm deviates from the typical romantic and classical compositions Tchaikovsky did, though. He incorporates the use of numerous electronics to create abstract songs that sway and swell smoothly. Spaces is simply an album that did not get the attention it deserved in 2013. Lucky for you, though, the limited vinyl of this great album is still available for you to purchase. Below is a live rendition of “Says” and “More” via KEXP and “For – Peter – Toilet Brushes – More” via the Erased Tapes YouTube channel so check those out and see what you think of them. Cheers!
