Robert Del Naja is one of the most influential individuals to come out of the nineties, if not the twentieth century. 3D and Daddy G (Grantley Evan Marshall), along with Tricky (Adrian Thaws) at one point in time, created a genre (and act) that is able to transcend time itself. Massive Attack haven’t released an album in over four years and the thirst is real for a new one – Massive Attack have only released five proper albums in their almost 30 year span which is just insane to think about. As of late, the two have been doing their own thing.
3D, in his ventures, began this Battle Box series, in which he’s collaborated with Guy Garvey (of Elbow), Congolese musician Jupiter Bokonjdi (which I’ve written about on Sly), and now he’s collaborated with TV On the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe to remix two songs from the singer’s relatively new band, Higgins Waterproof Black Magic Band. 3D and Adebimpe are in constant contact, exchanging loops, so 3D decided to give these songs a touch that is evidently his own. Like the past Battle Boxes, Paul Insect did the stark artwork. Stream (and at the moment, freely download) 3D’s remix of “Mad Lifeline” and see what you think of it. Cheers!
Massive Attack's Robert Del Naja aka 3D rejoins forces with TV on the Radio's frontman Tunde Adebimpe to create two epic electronic remixes of the singer's other outfit, Higgins Waterproof Black Magic Band.
The pair first collaborated on 2009's Massive Attack track 'Pray For Rain', and have kept in touch, swapping songs and ideas, resulting in these two remixes of tracks released on Higgins' self-titled debut EP.
Limited to 500 copies worldwide, this release features original sleeve artwork by Paul Insect, screen printed at K2 Screen in London. Recorded and mixed in Bristol in February 2014, 3D's remixes have been mastered by Noel Sommerville at 3345 Mastering and pressed by The Vinyl Factory on 180-gram heavyweight black vinyl using the EMI 1400 in Hayes, Middlesex.
Says 3D: "I constantly stalk Tunde with instrumentals! In revenge he sent me the Higgins album and I picked 2 tracks that I thought would be fun to remix. Now thatā€™s sorted, Iā€™ll get back to harassing him with loops.ā€¯
