Basf Ferro isn’t exactly a proper EP. The four tracks on DJ Guy’s Basf Ferro all come from his archives. Until now, these tracks have sat in the proverbial dark since the early 90s but really, they’re not showing their age in my opinion especially with the resurgence of older synthesizers/drum machines in production. Once again, the prolific Rashad Becker from Berlin’s Dubplates & Mastering shows up for the, well, mastering job. There’s, as Cejero calls it, “floating electronica,” ambient and techno on here. “White Tape Trk 1” (the Bandcamp player is a bit out of order at press time, for whatever it’s worth) is a soothing ambient wash with birds chirping, rushing water and a tide – all of which can usually be found in any self-respecting rainforest; it faintly seems like Boards of Canada could have made this.  “Computape Trk 2” and “Basf Ferro Trk 3” both fit under that “floating electronica” label and I have to say I’m rather fond of the latter. The last track, “Cds 90 X3r Trk 4,” is a lo-fi techno romp. Listen to it all below via the Bandcamp player and see what you think of it. Cheers!
After insane releases for All Caps and Nord, Guy is now ready to release his most varied selection to date. On “Basf Ferro” the genius Welshman moves from dark haunting ambient on “White Tape Trk 1” over floating electronica on “Basf Ferro Trk 3” and ”Computape Trk 2” to dynamic earthquake techno on “Cds 90 X3r Trk 4”.
All four tracks was recorded in the early 90’s. Until now they’ve been living a quiet life in Guy’s huge archive, but a great mastering session by Rashad Becker got rid of the last dust.
