A singular name with two men at the helm: Tom Howie and Jimmy Vallance. Bob Moses’ debut, Days Gone By, brings together the loveliest qualities of pop and electronica that arose in the latter 90s/early-mid 2000s. Days Gone By is, as Domino more or less took the words out of my mouth, “elegantly icy with an indelibly human touch.” This album is like putting on some aftershave, or getting that first drink of ice cold water after braving a few miles running without a pause. In a sense, this is like a spiritual cousin to Matthew Herbert’s Scale. However, this album for the most part sounds like it’s ready for an Apple commercial. “Touch and Go,” the closer, and the opener, “Like It Or Not,” are probably my favorite tracks off of this. The duo dives deeper in to deep house/UK garage territory as the album progresses, so if you’re not big on the “poppier” side just wait it out. The Details

Bob Moses will release their debut album, Days Gone By, on September 18th. Domino presents a limited edition pressed on 180gsm “silver” vinyl with a download card featuring the album and two additional bonus tracks.

Occupying the fertile ground between organic band land and an all-electronic production project, Bob Moses draw on the two poles to vividly resonate across both. A duo with an individual name, Tom Howie and Jimmy Vallance’s musical endeavor plays with this kind of duality all over Days Gone By. The album’s potency in solitude marks it out as a debut worthy of deeper scrutiny. A sound palette that combines the elegantly icy with an indelibly human touch, its Cologne techno rhythms in the bottom, the elegant otherly distance of Detroit in the middle, and an unmistakably earthly, almost jazzy textures in the top end, anchored by Howie’s softly suggestive voice that doesn’t dominate, but instead plays out as another instrument in an alluring mix.

Alternating between brooding dancefloor burners and moments of reflective, downbeat repose, Days Gone By is a record that’s not in a rush to get to its destination, preferring to subtly, slowly seduce rather than sway and swagger into submission, weaving a rich spectrum of sensation over the course of its ten tracks.
